The 'horror' genre of reading just doesn't really get to me, and I can't figure out why. Like, this was a kind-of spooky read, but I didn't exactly feel horrified — and this is coming from someone who has an extreme dislike of clowns. Not a phobia, but they definitely creep me out. I tend to enjoy scary movies more than scary books.
That being said, this book was satisfying, in that it met a few requirements in a 'horror' book: creepy, slasher-y, and it was a relatively quick read. I'm not sure if I'll read the sequel... maybe one day if I'm in the mood? 🤷🏻♀️

Okay, CoHo — WOW. It's been several days, and I'm still struggling to wrap my brain around this one. Everyone I knew (that is a reader, that is) was talking about this book, and I finally decided to read it on vacation... and it just about ruined my vacation! 🤣
Colleen Hoover is typically parked firmly in the romance and drama sections, but she came out of left field with this one, and that ending will probably always live rent-free in my brain. And I feel like everything I read of hers after this won't burn quite as brightly, in my mind at least.
If you go into this expecting the romance and drama that CoHo usually provides, you may be disappointed... or, your life will forever be changed. So... does that make you want to read it? 😜

Yep, I was right about Verity. I read this one directly after, trying to chase after that thriller high... but this book turned out to be more supernatural than thriller, even though it still held the same amount of mystery. Be prepared for ghosts and mystery, but the 'thrill' felt lacking.
This book was definitely very good, and the twist at the end definitely made me appreciate it more, especially since I was still high off of the Verity fumes. 🤣 But like I stated previously... I don't know if I will ever feel the suspense and thrill I felt when I flipped through the pages of Verity.
I would definitely recommend Layla, though, especially if you want to dip your toes into the supernatural genre, because it is mostly a love story about... well, I don't want to give it away, but there is a love story involved, but there's definitely a twist in there!
